Avril Lavigne is from Canada and was born in Belleville, Ontario. She
taught herself how to play guitar and sang in the local
church choir. Her first manager was the person who
discovered her while she sang country songs at a local
bookstore.
She was later 'discovered' by a local folk
singer named Steve Medd who was watching a theatre show
Avril Lavigne was involved in.
Avril Lavigne was asked to
sing on two of Steve Medd's albums released in 1999 and
2000. At the age of 16, she was
signed to a major music contract by Arista records
executives. She performed for renowned music chief LA
Reid and was signed.
She completed her first
album shortly thereafter. Avril wanted to co write her
songs but this did not happen. She then teamed up with
people who helped her produce another album. This
album was called Let Go and release in the summer of
2002. It is a pop / rock record. This album sold
over 15 million copies worldwide.
Avril released later albums
which she helped write songs for including Under My Skin in
late 2004. This album sold well and she won several awards for the work on this album.
